After a prolonged hiatus since the second release, the Surefire Sound imprint makes a welcome return with this EP, featuring three producers from across the pond. Typewriter Tune VIP exemplifies perfectly the anything goes attitude that is freeing up the new wave of bass music producers as we enter 2011. Taking the soca snare patterns associated with UK funky and tying them into the rapid-fire percussion of juke, the drums have an insistent shuffle, while the heavily warped synths and vocal chops provide an infectious off-kilter groove. Frozen Barnacles is driven by the swell of the filtered house chords, while the injection of horns recalls seminal early dubstep tunes. The digital also comes with the original version of Typewriter Tune.”
